Resumo: Maytenus dasyclada, a shrub species native to the South and Southeast regions of Brazil, a branching treetop, is cultivated in Porto Alegre’s Botanical Garden Arboretum, where its ornamental characteristics were observed indicating a promising use for landscaping. This study was developed using seeds from one of the specimens of the arboretum collection. The objective was to determine the best seed harvest period for nursery production. Flowering and fruiting phenophases were observed weekly. At each collection period, at 90, 110, 126, 132, and 153 days after anthesis, the following parameters were evaluated: color of the fruits, seed moisture and dry matter content, germination potential, speed of germination and the averagegermination time. The harvest period indicated corresponds to the 132nd to 153rd days after theanthesis, when the seed moisture content oscillates between 50.8% and 45%.

Encontra-se em cultivo no Arboreto do Jardim Botânico de Porto Alegre, RS, onde se observaram características ornamentais que indicam essa espécie como promissora para a utilização em paisagismo. O trabalho foi desenvolvido utilizando-se sementes de um dos exemplares da coleção arbórea, com objetivo de avaliar a melhor época de coleta de sementes para a produção de mudas em viveiros. Foram realizadas observações das fenofases de floração e frutificação com freqüência semanal. A cada época de coleta, aos 90, 110, 126, 132 e 153 dias após a antese, avaliaram-se os seguintes parâmetros: coloração dos frutos, teor de água e de matéria seca das sementes, potencial germinativo, índice de velocidade e tempo médio de germinação. A época indicada para a coleta dos frutos corresponde ao período entre 132 a 153 dias após a antese, quando o teor de água oscila entre 50,8% e 45%.Iheringia.
