Resumo: A survey of the Cyperaceae at Morro Santana in Porto Alegre and Viamão countries, in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, was carried out. Field trips were made monthly from October 2004 to October 2006, registering the environmental characteristics and flowering and fructification periods for each taxon. Fourthy taxa belonging to ten genera were confirmed: Bulbostylis Kunth (five), Carex L. (three), Cyperus L. (ten), Eleocharis R. Br. (six), Fimbristylis Vahl (two), Kyllinga Rottb. (two), Pycreus P. Beauv. (two), Rhynchospora Vahl (five), Scleria Berg. (four) e Websteria S.H. Wrigth (one). Bulbostylis subtilis M. G. López is a new record for Southern Brazil. An analytical key and short descriptions of the confirmed genera are provided. Keys for the species and varieties are also provided, along with data on their flowering and fructification periods, habitat, geographical distribution and illustrations of habit and diagnostic characters.

Foram realizadas coletas mensais no período de outubro de 2004 a outubro de 2006. Para cada táxon foram anotados o ambiente de ocorrência e dados de florescimento e frutificação. Quarenta táxons foram confirmados, distribuídos em dez gêneros: Bulbostylis Kunth (cinco), Carex L. (três), Cyperus L. (dez), Eleocharis R. Br. (seis), Fimbristylis Vahl (dois), Kyllinga Rottb. (dois), Pycreus P. Beauv. (dois), Rhynchospora Vahl (cinco), Scleria Berg. (quatro) e Websteria S.H. Wrigth (um). Bulbostylis subtilis M. G. López é uma nova citação para a Região Sul do Brasil. É apresentada uma chave analítica para os gêneros confirmados e breves descrições dos mesmos.
