Resumo: The aim of this study was to know the taxonomic composition of the Pinnularia Ehrenberg genus in Tupé Lake, a system of black water that belongs to the Tupé Sustainable Development Reserve, in the Negro River Basin, Amazonas State. The samples were collected using a plankton net bimonthly, from August 2002 to June 2004. A total of 20 species, three typical varieties and fi ve varieties other than the typical were identifi ed, measured, commented and illustrated. Pinnularia amazonica Metzeltin & Krammer is report for the fi rst time in the Negro River Basin, P. divergens var. malayensis Hustedt and P. pseudogibba Krammer are new records for the Brazilian Amazon.

Um total de 20 espécies, três variedades típicas e cinco variedades que não as típicas foram identifi cadas, mensuradas, comentadas e ilustradas.
