Morphometric characteristics of fruits and seeds and post-seminal development of Mimosa scabrella

The objective was to characterize the morphometrical aspects of the fruits and the seeds, and also the post-seminal development of M. scabrella, indentifying the normality and abnormality in the seedlings. The fruit is a legume type, from lomentaceous craspedium-type, with dimensions of 26.4 x 6.0 x 2.0 mm, having 1 to 6 articles, with 83% of them presenting seeds. The seeds present coloration varying from dark brown to black, apparent pleurogram, with uneven shape and dimensions of 5.3 x 3.7 x 1.3 mm. The presence of seeds without damage was registered in 73% of the seeds, and the 1,000 seeds weight corresponded to 17.8g (51,180 seeds/kg), which reflects an estimate of high seed yield for the species. The normal seedlings are formed at the 10th day with two opposite cotyledons, green and foliaceus, the hypocotyl is cylindrical and present white color, and the primary root is long, white and thin, and sharp-pointed at the end. Abnormalities as primary root, atrophied, twisted or disproportional were observed in root system.
