Resumo: Introduction: Temporomandibular disorders are a group of pathologies that involve the temporomandibular joint as well as the muscles involved, generating blockage, changes during mouth movement, joint noises, mandibular deviation, dislocation, headaches and tinnitus. Treating temporomandibular disorder is a difficult task and requires in-depth analysis of the symptoms and the assistance of a multidisciplinary team, due to its complex etiology as it is associated with parafunctional habits or even emotional issues, such as stress. The present study aims to address the effectiveness of laser therapy as an alternative treatment for temporomandibular dysfunction. Methodology: To this end, a bibliographical review was carried out, where a search was carried out in the databases PUBMED, Lilacs, Google Scholar, ScIELO. Final considerations: the relevance of physiotherapy as well as a multidisciplinary team is noted and that the LBI low-intensity laser contains positive aspects in the treatment of temporomandibular dysfunction, such as the absence of side effects, as it does not cause damage to the individual's healthy cells and provides anti-inflammatory action and immediate relief for patients.

Specialized Dentistry Group2023-11-12info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/85510.36557/2674-8169.2023v5n5p2794-2808Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 No. 5 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 2794-2808Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 5 Núm. 5 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 2794-2808Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; v. 5 n. 5 (2023): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 2794-28082674-8169reponame:Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciencesinstname:Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)instacron:GOEporhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/855/972Copyright (c) 2023 Douglas Simas Barros , Rosileide Alves Livramento , Bárbara Lira Bahia Mendes https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessBarros , Douglas SimasLivramento , Rosileide AlvesMendes , Bárbara Lira Bahia2023-11-12T19:55:07Zoai:ojs.bjihs.emnuvens.com.br:article/855Revistahttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihsONGhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/oaijournal.bjihs@periodicosbrasil.com.br2674-81692674-8169opendoar:2023-11-12T19:55:07Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences - Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)false
