Resumo: | OBJECTIVES: Correlate the use of Cannabis sativa, its therapeutic effects, in the maintenance and regulation of body homeostasis. METHODOLOGY: This study is a qualitative, exploratory literature review, based on a bibliographical search on the PubMed platform. Therefore, six studies were chosen, read in full and analyzed for this research. RESULTS/DISCUSSION: The studies listed for this review were published between 2019 and 2023, with 50% of them being published in 2022. The majority of studies were from the United States, 33.3%, compared to 16.7% from Switzerland, 16.7% from Canada, 16.7% from Turkey and 16.7% from Israel. It has been observed in several studies that such circulating concentration levels of endocannabinoids, when high, activate the cholinergic anti-inflammatory pathway, and, therefore, reduce and prevent oxidative stress associated with the pathophysiogenesis of diseases such as anxiety, depression, obesity and diabetes. Thus, it presents that endocannabinoids and the expression of endocannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 are fundamental in the process of regulating innate and adaptive immune responses. Others correlate the modulation of the airway immune response with the expression of CB1 and CB2 receptors, suggesting that appropriate endocannabinoid receptor ligands could be used in the treatment of asthma due to their anti-inflammatory and bronchodilatory effects. In this sense, corroborating the data presented by a study, which points to strong evidence about the applicability of therapy involving endocannabinoid modulation and CB1 receptor signaling as a regulator of the physiology of adipose tissue with the potential to combat obesity. CONCLUSION: This system not only regulates the central nervous system, but also plays a crucial role in modulating immunological, physical and metabolic responses. It is concluded that the impacts generated by physical exercise on the endocannabinoid signaling system represent a promising non-pharmacological approach. Furthermore, these results provide a solid basis for the future development of research that aims to deepen the understanding of the role of endocannabinoid systems. |
