Resumo: Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL) is a serious disease caused by protozoa, transmitted by insect vectors.  The study in Teresina, Piauí, seeks to evaluate the epidemiological profile from 2013 to 2020, analyzing cases reported by year/month and demographic characteristics.  Relevant for understanding prevalence and implementing preventive measures. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the epidemiological profile of visceral Leishmaniasis in Teresina, Piauí from 2013 to 2020, according to the number of cases reported per year and month and also according to age, gender and education.  METHODOLOGY: This is a qualitative and quantitative study, of a cross-sectional and descriptive nature, of epidemiological data on Visceral Leishmaniasis in Teresina, Piauí, from 2013 to 2020. The data were obtained through the SUS IT System (DATASUS). RESULTS: 1278 confirmed cases were reported, with the highest percentages recorded in 2014 (n=210, 16.43%) and in 2017 (n=189, 14.78%) and the lowest percentage recorded was in 2020 (n=94 , 7.35%).  There were occurrences in all months of the year, but with an increase in the number of cases from June to September.  Furthermore, in 26.68% of cases, the individuals had low education.  Furthermore, 32.39% of cases occurred in children under 5 years of age.  Males were the most affected (68.54%).  CONCLUSION: Leishmaniasis is endemic in Teresina, with a predominance in males and a high frequency in children under the age of five, and peaks in cases from May to August.

O estudo em Teresina, Piauí, busca avaliar o perfil epidemiológico de 2013 a 2020, analisando casos notificados por ano/mês e características demográficas. Relevante para compreender a prevalência e implementar medidas preventivas. OBJETIVO: Avaliar o perfil epidemiológico da Leishmaniose visceral em Teresina, Piauí de 2013 à 2020, de acordo com o número de casos notificados por ano e por mês e ainda conforme idade, gênero e escolaridade. METODOLOGIA: Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo e quantitativo, de caráter transversal e descritivo, dos dados epidemiológicos da Leishmaniose Visceral em Teresina, Piauí, de 2013 a 2020. Os dados foram obtidos através do Sistema de Informática do SUS (DATASUS). RESULTADOS: Foram notificados 1278 casos confirmados, sendo os maiores percentuais registrados em 2014 (n=210, 16,43%) e em 2017 (n=189, 14,78%) e o menor percentual registrado foi em 2020 (n=94, 7,35%). Houve ocorrências em todos os meses do ano, porém com acentuação do número de casos nos meses de junho a setembro. Além disso, em 26,68% dos casos, os indivíduos tinham baixa escolaridade. Outrossim, 32,39% dos casos aconteceram em menores de 5 anos. Os indivíduos do sexo masculino foram os mais acometidos (68,54%).
