Weaving networks: discussions about intersectoriality and territorial articulation of mental health services

The actions and services of the Brazilian healthcare system are organized following the logic of Health Care Networks (HCN). Considering the specific needs of individuals experiencing psychological distress and/or substance abuse, the thematic network of mental health care was established: the Psychosocial Care Network (PCN). In order to reflect upon and discuss networked healthcare, we consider that the network is built within a territory through the circulation and interaction of managers, workers, and users. In this sense, the research aimed to identify intersectoral partnerships directly related to psychosocial care, reflecting on their contributions to the continuity of mental health care in the studied territory. To this end, a field research was conducted using a qualitative approach with an exploratory-descriptive focus, in the city of Natal-RN, in randomly selected services, aiming to encompass the various components of the PCN. Data collection took place from May to October 2017, through the implementation of focus group sessions and descriptive observation of services and strategies that comprise the Natal/RN RAPS. The research was approved by the Research Ethics Committee under CAAE 65226817.5.0000.5292 and approval number 1.997.883. The study revealed social assistance services, socio-educational services for children and adolescents who commit infractions, churches, and NGOs as the main intersectoral partnerships in the network. It highlights the need to foster an 'intersectoral action' that moves through the micro and macro spaces of health, assistance, and social security policies for the articulation of Health Care Networks and the realization of the Psychosocial Care Network in the territory.
