Mathematics Education in Maranhão: history, teaching and research

The article presents an excerpt about the history of Mathematics Education in Maranhão and of the research groups of the main institutions of the State. Our objective is to know the configurations of research in Mathematics Education in Maranhão. The research is a literature review, with contributions from the studies of Manrique, Bicudo, Fiorentini; Lorenzato and D'ambrosio. We consider the study as qualitative, bibliographic, descriptive and interpretive, following the phenomenological approach for the descriptions and analysis of what appeared as a result of a search in the Directory. Among the main results, we highlight: absence of research groups in the central-eastern region of the State; concentration of groups in the capital; the groups have a recent formation; IFMA has the largest number of research groups in Mathematics Education. Thus, we understand that it is necessary to continue advancing with research in Mathematics Education in the State.
