The cult of the body has been a predominant feature of today, so there is a growing search for visual improvement in body appearance. Thus, in recent years, care techniques such as diets, weight training and cosmetic surgeries have been produced more frequently, as well as the use of synthetic substances specific to physical appearance. The study in question addresses the use of anabolic androgenic steroids, synthetic drugs that are considered a public health problem and use by people seeking to improve their body's appearance. These are usually men and women, predominantly men, based on the sociocultural aspects of consumption and love of the body. Bibliographic research was used, considering the use of existing material on the subject to support the work in question. It can be observed that the relationship between the consumption of anabolic substances and the social construction of masculinity needs to be further studied in the context of public health. Furthermore, the results demonstrated that several side effects are caused by the non-therapeutic and abusive use of AAS.
