Tourism and popular activation of frevo as a ‘territorial-heritage’ of Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil

Resumo: When it investigates patrimonialization, discourses and practices are identified that point to distinctions and tensions related to cultures, natures, historical times, and territories. Based on the decolonial paradigm and on critical studies of tourism and heritage, we analyzed the relevance and contributions of popular activation of territorial heritage as a theoretical-methodological perspective to investigate the tourist use of frevo in Recife (Pernambuco-Brazil). The 'official' documents of frevo’s patrimonialization in the national and global sphere, indicated that in the trajectory of frevo several appropriations and processes were established, including its tourist use. Considering frevo as a territorial-heritage of Recife was configured as appropriate to think/to propose 'other possible tourism' as it conceives tourism as an attribute of social valuation and heritage activation.
