Resumo: It is with pleasure that Habitus magazine presents, in its 2023 edition, volume 21, n. 1, an interview with Dr. Paulette Steeves, a researcher who has made significant contributions to the field of Archeology in deep and non-colonial temporalities. The interview was granted in early March 2022.Paulette Steeves is an indigenous archaeologist of Cree-Meti descent. She is an associate professor at Algoma University. She has received numerous honors, including an Honors Cum Laude title in 2000 from the University of Arkansas and being awarded the Research Canada Chair, Level II in Indigenous History Healing and Reconciliation. Our interviewee taught Anthropology courses at several universities, focusing on Native American sovereignty and the antiquity of human settlement in the Americas. In her latest book, The Indigenous Paleolithic of the Western Hemisphere, published in 2021, she defends human occupation of the American continent in the Pleistocene period, therefore, before the Clovis First model. In this work, Steeves also reinforces the importance of the decolonization of the academy and the production of knowledge for the full recognition of the cultural and temporal diversity of the native American peoples of the past and present.
