Resumo: The Folias dos Santos Reis, as well as other devotions originating from medieval Catholicism, entered Brazil and began to compose its sacred repertoire – imposed on the native peoples and later the black Africans affected by the diaspora to be enslaved here – gaining its own contours by the people who here formed itself. Hence, we seek to understand how a devotional act that was enthroned by popular Catholicism, still in the colony, approaches Afro-Brazilian religions, mainly Umbanda, without denying the myth that generated it. The set of factors such as the delegitimization by the religion that enthroned devotion, the endorsement of a popular Catholicism that reinvented devotional practices, the departure from the countryside to the cities, brought these devotees of Santos Reis closer to Umbanda cults.

De esta manera, buscamos comprender cómo un yo devocional que fue entronizado por el catolicismo popular, aún en Colonia, se acerca a las religiones afrobrasileñas, principalmente a la umbanda, sin negar el mito que la generó. El conjunto de factores como la deslegitimación por parte de la religión que entronizaba la devoción, el aval de un catolicismo popular que reinventaba las prácticas devocionales, la salida del campo a las ciudades, acercaron a estos devotos de los Santos Reyes a los cultos de la Umbanda.As Folias dos Santos Reis, assim como outras devoções oriundas do catolicismo medieval, que adentraram no Brasil e passaram a compor o repertório sagrado, imposto aos povos originários e, mais tarde, aos negros africanos acometidos pela diáspora para aqui serem escravizados, ganharam contornos próprios pelo povo que se  formava. Dessa forma, buscamos compreender como um auto devocional que foi entronizado pelo catolicismo popular, ainda na Colônia, se aproxima das religiões afro-brasileiras, principalmente da umbanda, sem negar o mito que a gerou.
