Resumo: This article examines U.S. private foundation giving to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and educational institutions in Brazil during and after the global recession (2006-2012). Using a national database of grants, the authors identify the U.S. private foundations that give the most money to Brazil, name the causes that receive the most international support, and identify how foundation giving in Brazil has been impacted by the worldwide financial crisis. The sections of the article describe the history of funding to education, the research literature on global philanthropy, the methodology for the study, the results, and recommendations to Brazilian scholars on how to more effectively pursue grants.
