The purpose of this work is to deal with the context and the role of “People of God” category at singular moments of the Church`s history. As from the Second Vatican Council, and through its Dogmatic Constitution Lumen Gentium, there‟s a reclamation of this category where it becomes a symbol of all the changes that the Council wishes to give to the Church. The category People of God will be the ecclesiology and background at Second Vatican. A few years later, at Medellín‟s Conference, the church seeks out to interpret the Second Vatican Council adjusting it to a Latin American reality, bringing up a real concern on the People of God‟s ecclesiology, especially on the context of the preferential option for the poor and vulnerable. Ten years later, we come to a Puebla Conference that reaffirms the previous meeting of Medellín in its values and proposals, speaks of a Church of communion and the value of the People of God in this Church. Finally, this work adresses the People of God at the most current times. Addressing the Conference of Aparecida and its proposal of an encounter with Jesus and his discipleship that transforms the Christianity into a prophetic mission in favor of the most vulnerable. After Second Vatican, its reception through Medellín, Puebla and Aparecida, we still see how much these advices are yet to be put into practice to renew the structures of the Church and make the People of God to become protagonist of the Church‟s action
