Quando o cárcere se transforma em museu: processos de transformação de centros de detenção em sítios de memória no Cone Sul (1990-2018)

This thesis analyzes the social processes of creation of the memory sites established in former detention centers, during the dictatorships in the South Cone, from the research about the constitution of the Parque por la Paz Villa Grimaldi (Chile), the Archivo Provincial de la Memoria (Argentina), and the Memorial da Resistência de São Paulo (Brazil). In the redemocratization processes, in the continent, the political fights against the discretion and impunity and for the right to the truth and the memory about what happened in the past constitute an important dimension in the battle against the dictatorship heritage and in the promotion of respect to human rights. And on this course, several social actors have interacted in order to (re)write the official history. In the South Cone, the former political prisoners and their relatives have assumed a protagonism in the claim of these memories. And, to the memory sites retrieved and musealized, it has been attributed the role of reporting the violations planned/occurred there and, also, educating for human rights
