Introduction: Since communication is the basis of social interaction, it is of great importance that individuals with complex communication needs find an alternative way to establish connections with other individuals and with the world. Augmentative and Alternative Communication - AAC can be a way for these people to be able to express themselves. The speech and hearing therapist is the responsible professional for establishing the ACC through a personalized conduct, which aims to know the needs of patients. Objective: Identify the strategies of use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication by speech and hearing therapists in scientific articles. Method: From the combinations of the descriptors found, n=99 articles were obtained in the sample, which after reading the titles and abstracts became n= 16. Of these 16 articles, 10 were selected for reading the hole article, and after reading, became 9 articles that were selected to compose the final sample of this study. The inclusion criteria for selection were: original scientific articles published in established databases, published in Portuguese, from 2012 to 2022, published in full, proving the effectiveness of the use of AAC. Results: The studies involved participants aged between 2 and 67 years, of both sexes, with a predominance of diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. The type of intervention was predominantly individual therapy, mostly in a clinic, with family involvement in most articles. The most common type of communication was non-verbal, low technology being used in most cases and the symbolic systems used were PECS and SPC. Conclusion: It is understood that the speech therapist is the professional capable of enabling the re-signification of stories mediated by language and by the resources of Augmentative and Alternative Communication. As for the different conceptions of language, it is up to the speech therapist to have a theoretical perspective that allows him to see language in its functioning and in its subjectivity, offering elements for the advancement of therapeutic approaches and that, consequently, contribute to subjects with impaired speech to occupy the place protagonist in their lives
