The aim of this research was to investigate the interfaces between the context of political crises and families in contemporary Brazil through a psychosocial, structuralist and historical reading, presenting contributions of psychology on the subject. The work was devoted to theoretical foundations in three subchapters: 1) main milestones and events in the Brazilian political context that led to the current situation; 2) main readings and conceptions about political crisis; 3) the problematization of the notion of family and the development of historical and social analyses that allow the discussion about the family in the sociopolitical context. In empirical terms, three psychologists with extensive clinical and academic performance were interviewed; with emphasis on the psychological care network in São Paulo, providing care at the University of São Paulo (USP), the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP) and the Sedes Sapientiae Institute (Sedes), in order to contemplate the scope of the theme through the perceptions of these professionals. The research was based on theoretical frameworks of the critical social sciences in general and on sociohistorical psychology specifically for the analysis of the results. The contributions raised by the research allow us to understand the political crisis not as a momentary disturbance, but as the result of a long dispute of political projects that is also expressed in families. These, in turn, have a double meaning: on the one hand, the family is meant as a place of dispute and reproduction of social dynamics; on the other hand, it represents security in the face of the instability and unpredictability of the critical political scenario
