The Quality of life for Elderly in Oncological Palliative care: Contributions of the gerontological nursing

Resumo: The objectives were to assess the frequency and severity of symptoms that impact the quality of life of the elderly in palliative cancer care. As a method, an observational retrospective cohort study. The results show that pain and fatigue were the most frequent symptoms in the elderly (100%), with lack of appetite being the most severe symptom in 45.4% of the elderly. It is concluded that the clinical manifestations of cancer and the side effects resulting from the treatment directly affect the quality of life of the elderly in palliative cancer care.

Como método, estudio observacional de cohorte retrospectivo. Los resultados muestran que el dolor y la fatiga fueron los síntomas más frecuentes en los ancianos (100%), siendo la falta de apetito el síntoma más grave en el 45,4% de los ancianos. Se concluye que las manifestaciones clínicas del cáncer y los efectos secundarios derivados del tratamiento afectan directamente la calidad de vida de los ancianos en cuidados paliativos oncológicos. Os objetivos foram avaliar a frequência e a severidade dos sintomas que impactam a qualidade de vida dos idosos em cuidados paliativos oncológicos. Como Método, um estudo observacional do tipo coorte retrospectivo. Os Resultados evidenciam que a dor e o cansaço foram os sintomas mais frequentes nos idosos (100%), com a inapetência sendo o sintoma de maior severidade em 45,4% dos idosos.
