Resilience of women with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Resumo: | Objectives: to identify how resilience is expressed among women with diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2) in a municipality in the southwest region of Bahia and to analyze the relationship between resilience and sociodemographic characteristics and health. Method: A cross-sectional, prospective research, developed among 50 women with DM2 in 2013, using the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) and sociodemographic data. Results: showed that the average value of DM2 impact on quality of life of women is similar to that found in other studies that investigated people with an diabetes, with average resilience scale CD-RISC of 79.48. There was an association between resilience and religion and the impact of the quality of life of patients with Diabetes in general. We conclude that interventions that enable the promotion of resilience in women with diabetes type 2 can increase the positive outcomes of life and make them more confident in their treatment to improve glycemic control. |

Objetivos: Identificar cómo la resiliencia se expresa en mujeres con Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2 (DM2) de un municipio de la región suroeste de Bahía y analizar la relación entre resiliencia y características sociodemográficas y de salud. Método: estudio transversal prospectivo desarrollado con 50 mujeres con DM2 en 2013, utilizando la Escala Resiliencia de Connor-Davidson (CD-RISC) y datos sociodemográficos. Resultados: mostraron valor medio del impacto de DM2 en la calidad de vida de las mujeres semejantes al encontrado en otros estudios que investigaron personas con DM, con promedio de Escala de Resiliencia (CD-RISC) de 79.48. Hubo asociación entre resiliencia y religión e impacto de la calidad de vida de las pacientes diabéticas. Conclusión: Intervenciones que estimulen la promoción de la resiliencia en las mujeres con DM2 pueden contribuir a aumentar los resultados positivos de vida y las tornen más autoconfiantes en su tratamiento para mejorar el control glicémico.Objetiva-se identificar como a resiliência se expressa em mulheres com Diabetes Mellitus tipo 2 (DM2) de um município da região sudoeste da Bahia, e analisar a relação entre resiliência e características sociodemográficas e de saúde. Como métodos, o estudo transversal prospectivo desenvolvido com 50 mulheres com DM2 em 2013, utilizando-se a Escala de Resiliência de Connor-Davidson (CD-RISC) e dados sociodemográficos. Os resultados mostram um valor médio quanto ao impacto do DM2 na qualidade de vida das mulheres, semelhante ao encontrado em outros estudos que investigaram pessoas com DM, com média da Escala de resiliência (CD-RISC) de 79.48. Houve associação entre resiliência e religião, com o impacto da qualidade de vida dos pacientes com diabetes.
