Resumo: Progressively, Environmental Gerontology is developed as a sub-area of this interdisciplinary field, which is Gerontology. This study focuses on ambience, especially from the perspective of elderly people who frequent parks and squares, seeking to understand the social context and the person-environment interrelationship, specifically concerned with this population segment. This is an analysis that explores concepts, theories and empirical studies, considering that the study area still has a shortage of production and data collection. Results were obtained regarding the motivations that lead old persons to attend parks and squares, such as the practice of physical activity and socialization.

Este estudio se centra en el ambiente, especialmente desde la perspectiva de las personas mayores que frecuentan parques y plazas, buscando comprender el contexto social y la interrelación persona-ambiente, específicamente preocupado por este segmento de población. Se trata de un análisis que explora conceptos, teorías y estudios empíricos, considerando que el área de estudio aún tiene escasez de producción y recolección de datos. Se obtuvieron resultados sobre las motivaciones que llevan a los adultos mayores a acudir a parques y plazas, como la actividad física y la socialización.Progressivamente, desenvolve-se a Gerontologia Ambiental como subárea deste campo interdisciplinar que é a Gerontologia. Este estudo foca na ambiência, em especial na perspectiva da pessoa idosa que frequenta parques e praças, buscando compreender o contexto social e a inter-relação pessoa-ambiente, com foco nessa população. Esta é uma análise que explora conceitos, teorias e estudos empíricos, considerando que a área de estudo ainda apresenta escassez de produção e de levantamento de dados.
