A guerrilha tem por seu principal objetivo diminuir o poder combativo de forças militares regulares invasoras, em um contexto excecional em que o defensor não possui a capacidade de contrapor as forças inimigas de ocupação a partir de suas próprias forças regulares. Para tal, os guerrilheiros atuam em táticas informais de guerra, atacando compo-nentes fulcrais do funcionamento do Exército, como sistemas de comunicação e bagagens, surpreendendo pequenos destacamentos de soldados separados de suas colunas principais, aproveitando-se do conhecimento privilegiado da geografia local para impor e manter uma posição de vantagem perante o inimigo. Constantemente desgastando-o até possibilitar a formação de alguma zona livre de influência invasora, iniciando-se o processo de recons-trução das forças regulares locais. Utilizando premissas e perspetivas da História Global, tentaremos demonstrar que a guerrilha, também comumente chamada de guerra popular ou subversiva, se fez presente em Portugal. Um produto de décadas marcadas por intensos conflitos diplomáticos inicia-dos com a Revolução Francesa e a Campanha do Rossilhão (1793-1795), que culminará na invasão de Portugal pelo Exército de Gironda, comandado por Jean Andoche Junot, em finais de 1807, com a fatal consequência da retirada da Família Real portuguesa para o Brasil e a desarticulação do Exército português. Cedendo particular atenção à primeira in-vasão, buscaremos demonstrar que a ação guerrilheira em Portugal foi fundamental para o enfraquecimento do Exército francês, contribuindo para o desembarque das forças regula-res inglesas que derrotariam Junot nas batalhas de Roliça e Vimeiro.We will advocate the hypothesis of the existence of guerrilla warfare in Portugal during the French invasions. The main objective of guerrilla warfare is to reduce the com-bative power of invading regular military forces in an exceptional context in which the de-fender does not have the ability to counter the occupying enemy forces from his own regu-lar forces. To this end, the guerrillas work in informal warfare tactics, attacking key-components of the Army's operation, such as communication systems and baggage, surpris-ing small detachments of soldiers separated from their mains columns, taking advantage of the knowledge of the local geography to impose and maintain a position of advantage over the enemy. Continuously wearing it down to make it possible to form some zone free of invading influence, initiating the process of rebuilding the regular local forces to finally fulfill the objective of defeating the main enemy.Using premises and perspectives from Global History, we will work to demon-strate that guerrilla warfare, also commonly called popular or subversive war, also existed in Portugal. A product of decades marked by intense diplomatic conflicts that began with the French Revolution and the Roussillon Campaign (1793-1795), which culminated in the invasion of Portugal by the Gironde Army, commanded by Jean Andoche Junot, in late 1807, with the fatal consequence of the withdrawal of the Portuguese Royal Family to Brazil and the dismantling of the Portuguese Army.
