Resumo: This paper deals with the influence of MgCl2 in the crystallization of NaCl, namely on crystal morphology. The study was developed using image analysis techniques combined with discriminant factorial analysis. With this methodology was possible to distinguish automatically among three different classes of crystals. Agreement between automated and manual classification, measured in terms of a performance index, is 90% on average. The effect of supersaturation and impurity concentration on the different classes of crystals was furthermore determined.
