Resumo: | In this dissertation, The Operability of the Concept of Landscape: Gardunha's Mountain as a hypothesis, it is intended to frame an operative dialogue between landscape and architecture. This desire arises from the challenge of debating the theme of landscape and its relevance to discuss the way in which a society projects itself onto the territory. The concept of landscape, like territory, is polysemic and unstable regarding its definition when employed by different disciplinary areas and stated by different people. Given this premise, landscape ends up having an elastic meaning where it is possible to fit practically everything, making it so that its true operability lies in understanding the background arguments which are mobilized throughout the discourses and representations related to landscape. Having this matter in consideration, one of the aims is to understand how in a given geographical situation - territory and society - the theme of landscape is constructed, adopting, for the purpose of this work, Gardunha's mountain as a study case. Thus, landscape is perceived not only by what is seen but also by the mental construction of what is seen and of those who see it, a dialogue between individual interpretations about the territory and the social milieu in which one sees him or herself in. Only by clarifying what it means to talk about landscape, is it possible to find relevant methods of problematization for the architecture's disciplinary field. The discipline of architecture, which does not necessarily focus on landscape matters, formalizes an occupation, a transformation, and a way of living in a territory. However, it is not clear how the landscape is informed and mobilized in the architectural discourse. The landscape in architecture is recurrently referenced from its phenomenological, historical, and aesthetic nature, whereas the social and political aspects tend to be forgotten. Analysing the landscape according to the referred methodology has the potential to inform matters where architecture can be in pursuit of solutions to work with, expose and propose divergences between diverse social groups and different ways of seeing and transforming the landscape, a dialogue that is informed by its political content, i.e., by discussion, by deliberation, by action. |
