This essay – «Reflections of Scandinavian design in the national territory of the interiors and furniture project» – intends to convey the importance of Scandinavian design in the world and particularly in Portugal. Due to the importance it has in the social and cultural context, the Scandinavian design has become a case of study for the last decades, since many worldly famous designers and architects come from these five northern European countries. It is also through the importance in the socialization and interiors atmospheres that this research is developed, once for these peoples the housing spaces have a different value from those in the southern countries. It is also for the same reason stated above that this work aims at identifying the connections between the context and the solutions presented by designers as far as interiors and their equipments are concerned. On the one hand, the sense of social responsibility is expressed through the values of citizenship and sustainability defence. On the other hand, the concern for comfort and quality of life is focused on the conception of atmospheres. Social concerns are reflected in the quality of housing spaces, conceived through comfort patterns where light plays a crucial part. Lastly, the present work aims at identifying the influence held by the Scandinavian design on the Portuguese territory in the historical path of the 20 th century and now.
