Social skills and attachment styles on psychoactive substance addicts

Developing social skills and establishing secure attachments are important for mental health. Both social skills and attachment styles seem to be related to psychological disorders, such as the addictive ones. In this way, the present study sought to identify and link the social skills and attachment styles in individuals addicted to psychoactive substances. The sample consisted of 142 individuals aged 21 ‑‑ 59, 71 of which were addicts and 71 who were non‑‑addicts. The Inventory of Social Skills (HIS‑‑Del‑‑Prette) and the Scale of Social Attachment (EAA‑‑Collins‑‑Read) were employed in the study. The results indicated that individuals with addiction to psychoactive substances scored lower in social skills and higher scores in insecure attachment than individuals with no addiction.
