Une double problématique s’offre d’emblée : quelles limites sont posées explicitement et implicitement par une telle entreprise compte tenu de la relation testimoniale préalable ; dans quelles conditions celle-ci peut-elle prétendre remplir ses objectifs ? Quelques règles peuvent en être tirées, notamment celles qui tendent à assurer la sauvegarde de l’objectivité, ainsi que celles du tout-dire et ne rien-cacher et leurs implications dans le cas du premier récit de la vie de l’écrivain et philosophe Gérald Hervé (1928-1998). In this paper I attempt to analyse the privileged but perilous relationship of the witness biographer with the biographee, reflecting furthermore upon my own work. A double issue arises at once : what are the limits set explicitly and implicitly by such an undertaking considering the previous testimonial relationship ? In what conditions can it carry out its purpose ?
