Resumo: Cervical cancer has a major impact on the lives of women worldwide. Although cancer is common in the elderly, cervical cancer mainly affects young women, between 35 and 50, many with work and family responsibilities. In the European Union, about 34,000 new cases and 16,000 deaths from cervical cancer are reported annually(1).Within all cancers, cervical cancer is the one which can be most effectively controlled, having a great potential for prevention and cure.Cervical cancer can be prevented through primary prevention strategies, through vaccination, which aims to prevent the transmission of the virus (HPV-16 and -18) necessary to the disease development, and secondary prevention strategies, through a screening test (Pap test or HPV), in order to detect pre-invasive lesions and prevent the onset of cancer

News Journal; 14-19Onco.News; N.º 12 (2009): Revista Onco.News; 14-192183-69141646-7868reponame:Repositório Científico de Acesso Aberto de Portugal (Repositórios Cientìficos)instname:Agência para a Sociedade do Conhecimento (UMIC) - FCT - Sociedade da Informaçãoinstacron:RCAAPporhttps://onco.news/index.php/journal/article/view/231https://onco.news/index.php/journal/article/view/231/232Direitos de Autor (c) 2023 Carla Alves dos Santosinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessAlves dos Santos, Carla2023-08-26T07:25:22ZPortal AgregadorONG
