A linguagem é um fenómeno universal comum a todos os homens e que serve para comunicar. A criança aprende a linguagem oral, a mais básica de todas as linguagens, desde que inserida num meio falante sem precisar de qualquer instrução ou livros de gramática. As Orientações Curriculares para a Educação Pré-escolar- OCEP (Ministério da Educação, 1997), bem como todos os modelos educativos, vinculam o bom desenvolvimento da linguagem oral como facilitador para a posterior aquisição do código escrito. O brincar é a atividade mais natural da criança e um direito que ela tem. Desde há muitos séculos que o brincar é também considerado como meio de a criança aprender e de se desenvolver a todos os níveis. Nos últimos anos foram feitos vários estudos que demonstraram a importância destes momentos não só para o desenvolvimento global da criança, mas também, mais especificamente, para o desenvolvimento da linguagem. Com o trabalho de investigação que aqui se apresenta pretende-se fazer uma revisão bibliográfica que fundamente a importância do desenvolvimento linguístico para a aquisição da leitura e o contributo do brincar para este desenvolvimento, não esquecendo os fatores de risco associados. Serão analisadas as definições do brincar e a importância que lhe é atribuída por teóricos contemporâneos. Dado que não foram encontrados estudos nacionais que abordassem esta interface, é também objetivo deste trabalho saber se na prática, também os pais que têm agora crianças a frequentar o jardim-de-infância perto de nós, consideram o brincar importante para os seus filhos e uma forma de promover o desenvolvimento de diferentes competências.This work focuses on two fundamental aspects in terms of pre-school education: The language development and play. The language is a universal phenomenon common to all human been and is used to communicate. The child learns oral language, the most basic of all languages, when inserted in a community with other speakers. She doesn´t needs any instruction or grammar books to learn it. The Portuguese Curriculum guidelines for pre-school, as well all the educative models, consider the importance of the oral language development as a facilitator for the subsequent acquisition of the written code. Play is the most natural activity in child and one of her rights. Since long time that play is also considered as a mean of learning and develops at all levels. In most recent years, various studies have demonstrated the importance of these moments, not only for the overall development of the child but also, more specifically, to the language development. The point of this research work is to review existing literature to substantiate the importance of language development for the later acquisition of reading and writing in the first class and the contribution of play for this development not forgetting the risk factors associated. It will be analyzed the different definitions of play and the relevance attributed to it by contemporary theorists.
