Resumo: | This paper provides an analysis of Wage differential determinants in the Azores Islands. We consider the human capital, segmented labor market and assignment (or allocation). theories. From the empirical analysis we conclude that wage* are significantly affected by supply variables such as years of schooling and experience and demand Variables expressed by the level of qualification of the job. We show that the rates of return to schooling, and seniority at the firm are different across the levels of qualification. By gender we conclude that females face not only low wage rates but also an allocation disadvantage by levels of qualification. In this case "equal pay for equal work" policies can be inefficient against labor market discrimination. |
