As experiências dos descobrimentos ajudariam a moldar o conceito de humanitas, de pendor universal, cuja formação se há-de basear na leitura dos clássicos – a fé na exemplaridade do mundo clássico; Silvio Piccolomini, mais tarde Papa Pio II, acrescentaria àqueles a leitura dos Padres da Igreja, o Antigo Testamento, os Evangelhos e autores contemporâneos, como Leonardo Bruni. Através do studium, o homem atingia o seu pleno desenvolvimento, elevado ao grau superior da virtus, realizando um dos valores mais característicos dos Romanos, cuja formação em muito é idêntica à da aretê grega. Foi esta propensão conciliatória do pensamento greco-latino com a doutrina da Igreja que havia de inspirar a grande súmula da pedagogia humanista, cristalizada na Ratio Studiorum (1586, Pe. Acquaviva) da Companhia de Jesus, de cuja fundação se ocupou o teólogo Paiva de Andrade. O A. vai fixar a sua atenção nas concepções poéticas de César Escalígero, valorizando uma aproximação à retórica que, em simbiose harmoniosa, nos leva a atingir a suprema perfeição da linguagem humana, ao serviço do paradigma do vir bonus dicendi peritus, no contexto de um verdadeiro programa ético-político de renovação da sociedade. (The experience of the discoveries has helped to shape the concept of 'humanitas', in its universal propensity, this genesis would be based on the reading of the classics - the exemplary of the faith on the classical world though Silvio Piccolomini will add the reading of the Fathers of the Church, the Old Testament, the Gospels and contemporary authors like Leonardo Bruni. Through the 'studium', the man reached its full development, up into a higher grade of 'uirtus', performing one of the most characteristic values of the Romans, which origin is very similar to the Greek 'aretê'. This Greco-Latin thought together with the doctrine of the Church have inspired the great docket of humanist oedagogy, cristallized in the 'Ratio Studiorum' (1586, Fahter Acquaviva) of the Society of Jesus, whose foundation was due to the teologiam Paiva Andrade. The A. shell establish its attention on poetic conceptions of Caesar Scaliger, highlighting an approach to rhetoric that, in harmonious symbiosis, leads us to reach the ultimate perfection of human language, to the service in the paradigm of 'vir bonus dicendi peritus', in the context of a real program ethical-political to the renovation of society).
