Resumo: Evidence is presented that led to propose the India Muerta - Paso Barranca region mounds, south of the Laguna Merín basin as originated mainly as a consequence of recursive use of a space to make earth ovens, analogously to Australian oven mounds. We discuss: 1) characteristics and archaeological record of earth ovens, 2) feasibility of producing mounds, 3) potential plant resources that -along with others- would have been processed in them, and 4) circumstances that would led to the earth ovens technology acquisition. To conclude we revise the evidence supporting the hypothesis, and the scope of the analogy, together with the change of perspective when mounds are viewed as the consequence of debris secular accumulation caused by everyday behaviour.
