Podcasts in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

Resumo: Teaching Biochemistry and Molecular Biology represents a big challenge in the undergraduate courses. The topics are complex and integrate knowledge that will be essential for the development of several professional activities. In the classroom, we have a very heterogeneous audience, which may respond better to visual or auditory stimuli. In addition, we need to consider the universal access to information, considering the possibility of having visually impaired students. In this context, we developed a new teaching methodology through the creation and use of podcasts that deal with the content of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. We selected the most complex subjects in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, according to the students' performance in the tests to do the podcasts: synthesis and oxidation of fatty acids, nucleic acid metabolism and protein synthesis. We believe the development of podcasts can contribute effectively to the learning of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

O conteúdo é complexo e integra conhecimentos que serão essenciais para o desenvolvimento de diversas atividades profissionais. Em sala de aula possuímos um público bastante heterogêneo, que pode responder melhor a estímulos visuais ou auditivos. Ainda, precisamos considerar o acesso universal à informação, considerando a possibilidade de termos estudantes deficientes visuais. Nesse contexto, desenvolvemos uma nova metodologia de ensino por meio do desenvolvimento e utilização de áudios que versam sobre o conteúdo de Bioquímica e Biologia Molecular, os podcast. Selecionamos os temais mais complexos em Bioquímica e Biologia Molecular para o preparo dos podcasts: síntese e oxidação de ácidos graxos, metabolismo de ácidos nucleicos e síntese de proteínas.
