E-mail: munhoz@uesc.br The aimed this study was to identify the ancylostomide larvae in the beaches of Salvador, Bahia. Twenty four beaches were selected and in each beach an area of 10(2x5) m2 was limited. Samples were collected in five different spots in each beach with approximately 250 grams each to a depth of 5 cm. The Ueno technique was used for the separation of larvae. For their localization the beaches were divided into High City and Low City. To compare the positivity proportions between the locations the binomial test with continuity correction was used. A total of 120 samples were collected; 43 (35.83%) presented ancylostomide larvae with 19 (79.16%) beaches contaminated. The highest levels of contamination were observed on the beaches Tubarão and Ribeira (100%). The beaches of the Low City presented more positive samples than the High City (p<0.0005). This study shows the risk of human infection with ancylostomide larvae in the beaches of Salvador, mainly in the beaches of the Low City. It also reinforces the need for the adoption of protection policies and sanitary preservation of these areas.

Foram selecionadas 24 praias e em cada uma, demarcada uma área de 10(2x5) m2 , sendo recolhido amostras de areia em cinco pontos, com aproximadamente 250 gramas a uma profundidade de até 5 cm. Para separação das larvas foi utilizada a técnica de Ueno. As praias foram divididas, por sua localização geográfica nas cidades Alta e Baixa. Para comparar as proporções de positividade entre as localizações, foi utilizado o teste binomial com correção de continuidade. No total, 120 amostras foram coletadas; 43 (35,83%), apresentavam larvas de ancilostomatídeos, com 19 (79,16%) das praias contaminadas. A maior contaminação foi observada nas praias de Tubarão e Ribeira (100%). As praias da cidade Baixa apresentaram mais amostras positivas que as da cidade Alta (p<0,0005).
