E-mail: mcelina@ufpi.edu.br The morphology of the cecum from agouti (Rodentia: Dasyproctidae) was described in this paper, using three females, adult, created the Study and Conservation of Wild Animals of the Federal University of Piauí, Teresina, Piauí, Brazil. The large intestine of animals has been identified; the cecum was dissected, performed anatomical analysis and records. Organ fragments were collected, processed, stained with hematoxylin and eosin and photographed under the light microscope. The cecum from agouti appears to be quite developed in relation to the animal’s size, divided into base, body and apex. The body has a longitudinal ventral and dorsal longitudinal tapeworm, thus forming several side haustros, well developed. The apex with blind bottom and a rounded end. Microscopically it was shown that the wall of the agouti cecum has four histologically distinct layers: the mucosa, submucosa, muscle and serosa. The mucosa is smooth, without folds and lined by simple columnar epithelium with goblet cells, forming simple straight tubular glands, the crypts of Liberkühn. The submucosa, composed of loose connective tissue may be observed isolated lymph nodes. The muscle layer, composed of smooth muscle fibers arranged in an internal circular sublayer and other outer longitudinal. The serous shows up feature, loose connective tissue lined by mesothelium. It can be concluded that the cecum agouti, based on their morphology, displays characteristics of a feature with the cecum, as well as in domestic animals as horses and pigs, as well as in other rodents and lagomorphs.

O intestino grosso dos animais foi identificado, o ceco foi dissecado, realizada a aná- lise anatômica e registros. Fragmentos do órgão foram coletados, processados, corados com Hematoxilina e Eosina e fotografados ao microscópio de luz. O ceco da cutia mostra-se bastante desenvolvido em relação ao porte do animal, sendo dividido em base, corpo e ápice. O corpo apresenta uma tênia longitudinal ventral e uma tênia longitudinal dorsal, formando assim, diversos haustros laterais, bem desenvolvidos. O ápice com fundo cego e sua extremidade arredondada. Microscopicamente foi evidenciado que, a parede do ceco da cutia apresenta quatro camadas histologicamente distintas: mucosa, submucosa, muscular e serosa. A mucosa apresenta-se lisa, sem pregas e revestida por tecido epitelial simples colunar com células caliciformes, formando glândulas simples tubulares retas, as criptas de Liberkühn. A submucosa, composta por tecido conjuntivo frouxo podendo ser observados nódulos linfáticos isolados. A camada muscular, formada por fibras musculares lisas dispostas em uma subcamada circular interna e outra longitudinal externa. A serosa mostra-se característica, tecido conjuntivo frouxo revestido por mesotélio.
