THE ROLE OF THE SCHOOL IN THE CONSTITUTION OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS' SPIRITUALITY

Summary: This research’s goal was to investigate the implications of the role of contemporary schools for the constitution of the spirituality of high school students in the city of Sao Paulo, from the point of view of such students. Two instruments for producing and collecting data were used: 1) the application of a survey consisting of 26 closed questions and two open questions, to high school students from four schools, two of which were confessional schools and two public schools, and 2) discussion groups - conducted in two schools -, one of which was a confessional school and another one, a public school, seeking to portray the role of the school in the constitution of spirituality, according to the opinion of the young people who participated in the survey. For the analysis of the data collected from the responses to the survey we used the statistical program known as the Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS), using the so-called Student's t test for descriptive analysis of frequencies, variation and inferential statistics of some questions. And our understanding of the discourse of the discussion groups was inspired by Prose Analysis. The results revealed that the role of the school in the constitution of spirituality is to: 1) provide environments in which the spiritual dimension can be explored; 2) offer psycho-emotional help to students; 3) allow teachers to be mediators for deeper knowledge and 4) help teachers develop a relationship with students based on humanizing practices.

Se utilizaron dos instrumentos de producción y recolección de datos: 1) aplicación de cuestionarios, compuestos por 26 preguntas cerradas y dos abiertas, a estudiantes de secundaria de cuatro escuelas (2 confesionales y 2 públicas) y 2) grupos de discusión, realizados en dos escuelas (1 confesional y 1 público), para retratar, según la opinión de estos jóvenes, el papel de la escuela en la constitución de la espiritualidad. Como procedimientos de análisis de datos se optó, para las respuestas al cuestionario, por utilizar el programa estadístico Statistical Package of Social Science (SPSS), con análisis descriptivo de frecuencias, varianza y estadística inferencial mediante la prueba t de Student en algunas preguntas. Para comprender los discursos de los grupos de discusión, nos inspiramos en Prose Análisis. Los resultados revelaron que el papel de la escuela en la constitución de la espiritualidad implica: 1) proporcionar ambientes en los que se pueda explorar la dimensión espiritual; 2) ofrecer ayuda psicoemocional a los estudiantes; 3) alentar a los docentes a ser mediadores de conocimiento profundo; y 4) posibilitar que los docentes desarrollen una relación con los estudiantes a partir de prácticas humanizadoras.Este trabalho teve como objetivo cumprir as implicações do papel da escola contemporânea para a aprendizagem da cidade de alunos, sob o ponto de vista desses alunos. Dois instrumentos de produção e coleta de dados: 1) questões de uso, compostas por 6 questões de ensino fechado e aberto, alunos do ensino médio (2) e 2 públicos, realizados em duas aplicações médias de 1 grupos com a finalidade de retratação, segundo a opinião jovens, o papel da escola pública na escola da espiritualidade. Como procedimento de análise dos dados estatísticos, optamos pelo pacote de respostas estatísticas, pela análise da utilização dos dados estatísticos e estatísticas inferenciais de utilização de teste de algumas questões.Para compreender como falas dos grupos de discussão, inspiramo-nos na Análise de Prosa.
