Resumo: The objective of this work was to study the response of barley genotypes to different levels of technology. The trial was carried out in 2003, in Victor Graeff, RS and was composed by the following factors: technological rate (regular – according to soil analysis in addition to two fungicide trataments and one inseticide application; incremented – duplicated dose indicated in soil analysis, in addition to fortnight fungicide tratament and inseticide application if necessary); growth regulator (with or without); and genotype (17 genetic constitutions). Were analized: grain yield (GY), kernel plumpness (KP), protein content (P), and beta-glucans content (BG). There was a signifi cant interaction between ‘Technology’ and ‘Cultivar’, for GY and KP. The genotypes ‘BRS 195’, ‘MN 814’, ‘MN 721’, ‘MN 698’, ‘AF 98067’, ‘MN 610’ and ‘AF 99007’ were statisticaly better under maximized input compared to usual input for grain yield. However, only the fi rst four genotypes showed a positive cost/benefi ce relation. Eight genotypes increased the percentage of kernel plumpness (above 2,5 mm) when improving technological level management. Applied input and the use of growing regulators increased Beta-glucan and protein content, but neither of this effects infl uenced on brewing quality.
