Resumo: Antibodies to Bovine Leukemia Virus (BLV) were determincd by the agar gel immunodiffusion test in serum samples from dairy cattle imported from Uruguay to Brazil. From 19,774 samples tested during 1992-1997, 3,225 (16.30 %) had antibodies. These results suggest the necessity to import only negative cattle to BLV and to implant control measures in Brazil.

These results suggest the necessity to import only negative cattle to BLV and to implant control measures in Brazil. Durante o período de 1992 a 1997 foram analisadas 19 774 amostras de soro provenientes de bovinos importadas do Uruguai, pelo estado do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, através da prova de imunodifusão em ágar gel para detecção de anticorpos contra o vírus da leucose bovina (BLV). Das 19 774 amostras, 3225 (16,30%) foram identificadas como positivas. Os resultados indicam a necessidade de assegurar a importação somente de bovinos negativos para o BLV e da implementação de medidas de controle no Brasil. Departamento de Diagnóstico e Pesquisa Agropecuária.
