Resumo: Objective: To evaluate the contribution of the preceptorship program of the Theoretical Grounds and Nursing Techniques course in the education of nursing undergraduate students. Method: Descriptive-exploratory research, with a qualitative approach, whose data were collected by means of semi-structured interviews and submitted to thematic content analysis. Interviews were conducted with ten students, who were enrolled in the ninth semester of the nursing undergraduate program of the Federal University of Bahia, Anísio Teixeira Campus, and who attended preceptorship as a curricular component. Results: Two thematic categories emerged: 1) Preceptorship strengths, with the following meaning nuclei: strengthening of the learning process and student-preceptor relationship; and 2) Preceptorship weaknesses, with the following meaning nuclei: teaching model adopted and participation of students in preceptorship. Final considerations: Preceptorship has become an important part of the teaching process of the curricular component, and the performance of preceptors strengthens both the teaching process and the undergraduate students. Despite barriers being pointed out, such as the high course load of the component and work load of professors, which may interfere in the benefit of students, preceptorship can contribute to minimize such problems.
