Resumo: Objective: to summarize qualitative studies on family care of the premature child. Method: Review of qualitative studies that evaluated qualitative studies from 2005 to 2017 after consultation in four databases MEDLINE, LILACS, BDENF and IBECS identifying 539 studies, of which 30 researches composed the sample. Results: Two categories were identified: negative aspects of family care in the care of premature children and positive aspects of family care in the care of premature children. The negative aspects were related to the relationship with the preterm infant and the family, while the positive aspects were related to the mother herself, to health professionals and to the family. Final Considerations: The families composed of 442 relatives (279 mothers, 163 fathers), experience the care of the premature child from the NICU to the home environment through feelings, emotions and attitudes modulated by the relationship between spouses, health professionals and with the child itself.
