Falls of elderly in the home environment: an integrative review

Resumo: The aim is to identify how falls in the elderly in a home environment has been national scientific literature.An integrative review performed in databases: Nursing Database (BDENF), Latin American Literature in HealthSciences (LILACS) e Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE). The inclusion criteriawere: articles available in full version; published in the Portuguese language; in the period from 2011 to 2016;and that approach the respective themes. The criteria for exclusion were repeated articles in the databases andthat they were not related to nursing. Thirteen articles were selected which, from the essence of the contents,were grouped into three categories: Risk factors for falls in the elderly in the home environment; Consequencesof falls in the elderly at home; and Prevention of falls in the elderly: promoting a safe home environment. Itconcludes that the intrinsic characteristics of the elderly, added to the various environmental factors that exceedtheir physical-functional capacity, contribute to the occurrence of falls of elderly at home. It is necessary that thenurse perform constant evaluations of the elderly and their vulnerabilities to the risk of falling and orienting tothe practice of exercises and the adaptations of the infrastructure of the home environment, in order to ensurethe safety and quality of care provided to these individuals.Keywords: Accidental Falls; Aged; Housing; Patient Safety; Geriatric Nursing.

Revisão integrativa realizada nas bases de dados: Base de Dados de Enfermagem (BDENF), Literatura Latino-Americana em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS) e Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE). Os critérios de inclusão foram: artigos disponíveis na íntegra; publicados na língua portuguesa; no período de 2011 a 2016e que abordassem a respectiva temática. Os critérios de exclusão foram artigos repetidos nas bases de dados e quenão estivessem relacionados à enfermagem. Foram selecionados treze artigos que, a partir da essência dos conteúdos,foram agrupados em três categorias: Fatores de risco para quedas em idosos em ambiente domiciliar; Consequências das quedas em idosos no domicílio; e Prevenção de quedas em idosos: promovendo um ambiente domiciliar seguro.
