Resumo: | Hotels have a sector where gender relations still play a significant role in shaping the roles performed by professionals. However, questioning the construction of some roles in the hotel industry is necessary to reorganize a structure formed by social or biological constructs, as the hotel industry does not predominantly adhere to biological notions but rather those constructed socially. Governance is one of the areas most affected by this dynamic. This can be attributed to the perception that women are more suitable for cleaning and organizational roles, along with the belief that women have an innate ability to attend to details. To change this dynamic, hotel companies need to recognize and question the gender stereotypes underlying their organizational structures. Using a qualitative approach and conducting interviews accompanied by a questionnaire with active professionals, it was possible to obtain among the main results that housekeeping predominantly or in some cases entirely consists of female staff, with a profile characterized by low education levels. Men are often directed towards roles requiring physical strength and maintenance. It is hoped that by providing insights, steps can be taken to evolve hotel governance to become more inclusive and egalitarian. |
