Brazil and Argentina: counterreform processes and retrocesses in social security policy

Resumo: This article, based on exploratory documentary research, aims to analyze the setbacks of social security policy in Brazil and Argentina. The time frame analyzes economic scenarios from the 1990s to the most recent, between 2016 and 2019. As a result, the study points out that the political agenda adopted hegemonically in Latin America, including Brazil and Argentina, was of a neoliberal character, through of counterreforms, characteristics of contemporary times, implying a setback in the rights historically constructed by the working class throughout the 20th century.
