ICTs as strategies for the work of social workers in PAS

This article discusses the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) by social workers as a strategy for accessing and democratizing information in the Social Assistance Policy (PAS). The investigation was based on a literature review and an analysis of the regulations that deal with the right to access information in the National Social Assistance Policy (PNAS). As of 2020, these technologies were adopted by the Federal Government for the access of the low-income population to emergency income transfer policies. Thus, it is questioned how the use of these technologies imposed changes both in the operationalization of the provision of social assistance services and in the execution of the work developed by social workers. The results showed that the use of ICT is linked to the work of social workers either as an imposition resulting from the pandemic, or as a decision of professionals as a concrete alternative to reach goals that are close to the principles defended by the profession.
