Statistical thinking in a Mathematical modeling activity: ressignificating the launch of paper aircraft

Resumo: | In this article we investigate statistical thinking manifestations revealed in the written production of students when developing a Mathematical Modeling activity. We base ourselves on theoretical contributions related to statistical thinking, associated with the idea of variation, more specifically, the production and analysis of data and the decision taken from them; to Statistics Education understood as an area concerned in the relation of the concepts of statistics and probability with other fields of knowledge, as well as with situations in which the concepts are used; and to Mathematical Modeling considered a teaching methodology in which mathematics contents emerge from a situation not essentially mathematic. We analyze an activity developed by a group of students in the context of a Mathematical Modeling discipline of the seventh period of the degree course in Mathematics of a federal university of Paraná. We use qualitative analysis to investigate students' written records, we evidence that statistical thinking is manifested from the planning of actions for the collection of data, the collection itself and the organization of these data, the interpretation of data through statistics concepts descriptions, as well as the use of different representations to think about problem. |

Fundamentamo-nos em aportes teóricos relativos ao pensamento estatístico, associado à ideia de variação, mais especificamente, à produção e à análise de dados e à tomada de decisão acerca dos mesmos; à Educação Estatística entendida como área preocupada na relação dos conceitos da Estatística e da Probabilidade com outros campos do conhecimento, bem como com situações em que os conceitos são utilizados; e à Modelagem Matemática considerada uma metodologia de ensino em que emergem conteúdos matemáticos a partir de uma situação não essencialmente Matemática. Analisamos uma atividade desenvolvida por um grupo de estudantes no contexto de uma disciplina de Modelagem Matemática do sétimo período do curso de Licenciatura em Matemática de uma universidade federal do Paraná.
