Resumo: Theatre for and with babies is a relatively new field in the Portuguese landscape. Its interdisciplinary nature grounds it in different areas, still in the process of defining itself in both theory and practice, and it falls within a broader concept of Theatre for Children and Youth. Addressing designations internationally assigned to theatre directed at babies and young children, this article aims to provide historical context and explain its characteristics in relation to different dramaturgical formats, scenic and artistic resources, and the specificities of the actor/performer's work.

Su naturaleza interdisciplinaria lo fundamenta en diferentes áreas, aún en proceso de definición tanto en teoría como en práctica, y se enmarca dentro de un concepto más amplio de Teatro para la Infancia y la Juventud. Este artículo tiene como objetivo contextualizarlo históricamente y explicar sus características en relación con los diferentes formatos dramatúrgicos, recursos escénicos y artísticos, así como las especificidades del trabajo del actor/performer, abordando las designaciones internacionalmente asignadas al teatro dirigido a bebés y niños pequeños.O teatro para e com bebés é um campo relativamente novo no panorama português.
