Industrial profile of the Santa Catarina state exportation and the deindustrialization hipotesis

Resumo: This paper aims to analyze the industrial profile of the Brazilian State Santa Catarina, the focus is to answer the following question: Is it occurring a process of deindustrialization in the Santa Catarina State? In this sense, were adjusted two Vector Error Correction Models (VEC), with the following dependent variables: exports of manufacturing industry (high intensity, medium high, medium-low and low intensity) of the Santa CatarinaState and the exportations of non-industrial products of this State. The independent variables were real effective exchange rate; price index of commodities; and coefficient of the commercial openness degree. The results indicated that the exports of non-industrial products presented a greater increase than the products by technological intensity. In relation to the imports of the non-industrial products, was noted a much smaller increase than the manufacturing industry products by technological intensity. Considering the VEC estimation, the results indicated that the exchange devaluation doesn ́t stimulates the exports; the commercial openness was extremely damaging to the imports and the variable index of the commodities price presented an opposite sign than the expected. Finally, it is possible to conclude that there are strong evidences of the deindustrialization process in Santa CatarinaState.Keywords: Manufacturing Industry; Exchange Rate;Vector Error Correction.

En ese sentido, se ajustaron dos modelos de Vector de Corrección de Error (VEC), con las siguientes variables dependientes: exportaciones de la industria manufacturera (intensidad alta, media-alta, media-baja y baja intensidad) del Estado de Santa Catarina y exportaciones de productos no industriales de este Estado. Las variables independientes fueron el tipo de cambio real efectivo; el índice de precios de materias primas; y el coeficiente del grado de apertura comercial. Los resultados indicaron que las exportaciones de los productos no industriales mostraron un aumento mayor que los productos de la industria de transformación. En cuanto a las importaciones de los productos no industriales, se constató un aumento mucho menor que la industria de transformación. Con relación a la estimación del VEC, los resultados indicaron que la devaluación cambiaria no estimula las exportaciones de la industria de transformación, que la apertura comercial fue extremadamente perjudicial a las exportaciones de este sector y que la variable índice de precios de las materias primas mostró un signo contrario al esperado.Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar o perfil industrial do Estado de Santa Catarina, visando responder à seguinte questão: está ocorrendo um processo de desindustrialização no Estado de Santa Catarina? Nesse sentido, foram ajustados dois modelos Vetorial de Correção de Erro (VEC), com as seguintes variáveis dependentes: exportações da indústria de transformação (alta intensidade, média-alta, média-baixa e baixa intensidade) do Estado de Santa Catarina e exportações de produtos não industriais deste Estado. As variáveis independentes foram taxa de câmbio real efetiva; índice de preços das commodities; e coeficiente do grau de abertura comercial. Os resultados indicaram que as exportações dos produtos não industriais apresentaram um aumento maior do que os produtos da indústria de transformação. Em relação às importações dos produtos não industriais, constatou-se um aumento muito menor do que a indústria de transformação.
