Contribuição ao estudo da origem e ramificação da artéria cólica média em fetos de bovinos azebuados

The origin and branching of the middle colic artery were studied in 40 zebu bovine foetus, 20 female and 20 male, for better understanding of its origin and branches's distribution. The results allow the following conclusions: The middle colic artery has its origin more frequently from the cranial mesenteric artery in 27 (6 7,5%) of the specimens examined, and it is seen to emerge as the second colateral (5,0%), third colateral (10,0%), fourth colateral (22,5%), fifth colateral (22,5%) and sixth colateral (7,5%). The meddle colic artery also emerges from a common trunk formed with the right colic artery in 12 (30,0%) of the studied animals. In only one case (2,5%) the middle colic artery was found to emerge in a common trunk with the caudal pancreaticoduodenal artery. The middle colic shows as terminal branches a branch for the end of the ascending colon and transverse colon and another branch to the transverse colon and descending colon's initial portion.
