Characters Strenghts and Parenting Styles: a correlational study

Resumo: | This research sought evidence of validity for character Forces Scale (EFC) based on the relationship with other variables, checking correlations between Responsiveness Scale and Parental Requirement (EREP) and parenting styles. The participants were 24 couples (n = 48) belonging to a Catholic religious community of the state of São Paulo. Predominated in the sample qualities that create connections with the universe in search of meaning and the ones involving care of the other. Significant Pearson correlations between parenting styles and strengths ranged from 0.32 to 0.64. Curiosity, Kindness, and Gratitude showed correlations with three indices of EREP. The Responsiveness had more relations with the forces than Requirement. As practical implications of the study, parents and families counseling can be based on understanding of healthy psychological-emotional climate, since parents can contribute to the development strengths of children. |

Fueron 24 parejas participantes (n = 48), pertenecientes de una comunidad católica del estado de Sao Paulo. Cualidades que crean la conexión con el universo en busca de sentido y que implica cuidado con otro prevalecieron en la muestra. Significativas correlaciones de Pearson entre los estilos parentales y fuerzas variaron de 0,32 hasta 0,64. Curiosidad, bondad y gratitud mostraron correlaciones con tres índices de EREP. La capacidad de respuesta tuvo más relaciones con las fuerzas de que la exigencia. Implicaciones del estudio práctico son que las orientaciones familiares pueden basarse en la comprensión del clima psicológico-emocional saludable, ya que los padres pueden contribuir a los puntos fuertes de desarrollo de sus hijos.Esta pesquisa buscou evidências de validade para a Escala de Forças de Caráter (EFC) baseadas na relação com outras variáveis, verificando correlações entre a Escala de Responsividade e Exigência Parental (EREP) e os estilos parentais. Participaram da pesquisa 24 casais (n= 48) pertencentes a uma comunidade religiosa católica do estado de São Paulo. Qualidades que criam conexão com o universo em busca de sentido e as que implicam cuidado com o outro prevaleceram na amostra. As correlações de Pearson significativas entre estilos parentais e forças variaram de 0,32 a 0,64. Curiosidade, Bondade e Gratidão apresentaram correlações com três índices da EREP. A Responsividade apresentou mais relações com as forças do que a Exigência.
