Resumo: Five yam clones (Mimoso, Pezão, Caramujo, Roxo and Flórida) and four cuttings sizes (3 cm2 of peel x 3 cm3 of starchy part; 3 cm2 x 6 cm3; 6 cm2 x 6 cm3 and 6 cm2 x 12 cm3) were evaluated. They were arranged in a 5 x 4 factorial scheme, in a randomized block design, with four replications, for fresh mass plants productions. Harvest was done on 248th day after planting. Average productions of fresh masses of aerial parts and rhizomes were not influenced by interaction, but showed significant dependence on clones and cut sizes. Highest rates of aerial part and rhizome fresh masses belonged to ‘Caramujo’, with 17.20 t ha-1 and 51.40 t ha-1, respectively. ‘Mimoso’ 7.10 t ha-1 and ‘Pezão’ with 24.55 t ha-1 had lowest rates respectively in aerial parts and in rhizome production. When cutting size is taken into account, the highest productions of fresh masses of aerial parts (14.75 t ha-1) and of rhizomes (52.01 t ha-1) were those from plants with large cuttings. Planting of yam clones must use cuttings with minimum size 6 cm2 peel and 6 cm3 starchy part.

Planting of yam clones must use cuttings with minimum size 6 cm2 peel and 6 cm3 starchy part.
